Smiling all the way.....HO HO HO

Last months post we shared some tips to make this Christmas a stress free zone!  This month we share some MORE great idea's & tips to PREP for a very MERRY Christmas + we share our new selection of HAMS + more...

Prep is the key - knowing what you need to buy to ensure your entertainment & meals are exactly as you imagined!

What you need to do?

#1 - First write your guest list - note if there are any food intolerances & gifts you'd like to buy?
#2 - Second write your menu - you can even have them printed & displayed on the table!
#3 - Third it is a great idea to create a music playlist suitable for the occasion
#4 - Fourth know what you'll use to set the table & to decorate.  Prepare all you need at least three days prior

Now write down every ingredient you'll need - you can ring the DELI to have your platters or rolls
pre-ordered so you can tick this one off your list - call 9610 7669

The day prior is best to get all your ingredients & for the cold meats & rolls on the day you can easily pick up your order

Last of all make sure you ENJOY every step - I know it's easy to get anxious & stressed this usually happens when we are not organised.  Make the time to PLAN & you will NOT be sorry - you might even surprise yourself & your guests how relaxed & fun you can make it!

After all YOU are in the drivers seat - so to speak :)

Jingle your way to a RELAXED ENJOYABLE Christmas

As the Christmas season approaches it is great NOT to get caught up with the enormity of expectations & lists of what 'to do' before the year is out rather during this season get organised (see end of list how we can assist) & sit back to ENJOY the experience!  A time to taste the joy of food & BE with your loved ones, making these experiences memorable ones.

To celebrate we are featuring this month the fabulously delicious Panettone range by Filippi.   Filippi is one of the top 3 panettone brands in Italy.  They use all natural ingredients.
Taste the difference!

Taste is a discovery

No flavour prevails in Filippi’s products. There are just fragrances to be slowly discovered. Selected ingredients and lots of care make a unique tasting experience. Enjoying a cake reminds you of the careful movements of its manufacturers. The aroma, the taste, the fragrance, the colours are to be slowly appreciated, wondering how, why and where they are coming from. They’re the true passions and values of a family whose faith is in authenticity and tradition. Savouring a cake will be as sitting down at a table with the Filippi family on a feast day. Those are the moments when Filippi’s dedication becomes the perfect holiday pleasure because tradition is not only the past, but also what is truly done year by year in a loving and passionate way.

Check it out!

We have the most extensive Panettone range - offering classic everyday Panettones to Indulgent Artisan Panettones - here is a sneak peek of Filippi's range -
our feature for the month!

These panettone's include a jar of liquor used to pour over your natural tasty panettone upon serving.

 'More Than Burnt Toast'

Caccavelli alla valli

1 box of "Caccavelli" Gragnano
250 g of a mixture of ground beef and Italian sausage (casings removed)
200 g fresh buffalo mozzarella
120 g fresh ricotta.
1 egg yolk
3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated,
Salt and good quality olive oil according to your taste
2 cups of your favourite pasta sauce
3 tablespoons pesto sauce

***********
In a large saucepan bring salted water to a boil. Add Caccavella and cook for approximately 15 minutes as directed by manufacturer.

To make stuffing saute meat mixture without oil, add a touch of salt. Drain off any fat and allow to cool in a separate bowl. To the cooked meat mixture add fresh mozzarella (cut into small cubes), fresh ricotta cheese, egg yolk, a handful of grated Parmesan cheese and a pinch of salt.  Mix well and fill caccavella.

Make your favourite pasta sauce. This works best with a sauce with a more liquid consistency. To this add pesto sauce. Set aside.

In individual casseroles place caccavella in the centre and fill up the vessel almost to top edge of the pasta with the sauce, Bake in a 350F oven for 30 minutes, serve hot. Sprinkle with additional grated Parmesan. Drizzle with good quality olive oil.

We dedicate this poem to ALL MOTHERS...

MUM

Mum, it’s hard to find the words to say,
How much you mean to me,
But if it wasn’t for your love and care,
I don’t know where I'd be.

How did you do it all, mum,
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can’t comprehend.

“Mother” is such a simple word,
But to me there’s meaning seldom heard,
For everything I am today,
My mothers love showed me the way.

Nobody’s equal to you, mum,
With you in my life, I'm blessed,
I love you so, and I want you to know,
I think you’re the very best.

Words cannot say how I love you, mum,
And just how much I owe,
Please know that I’ll always be there for you too,
In the high times and low.

Our love and support for all things Australian

ANZAC Day – 25 April – is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.  Australians recognise 25 April as an occasion of national remembrance.  ANZAC Day is a time when Australians reflect on the many different meanings of war & we commemorate those who died in the war.

With ANZAC Day upon us we at The Bossley Park General Store & Deli would like to honour those lives lost at war.  And celebrate the produce we have in Australia that makes us so fortunate.  Celebrating all good things Australian,  here are a few Australian Made products from some successful family run businesses.

We hope you enjoy and  appreciate them as much as we do.

The Deli Family.

The Little General Olive Oil

The Little General Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a premium quality culinary product produced in the Riverina area of NSW, Australia and the result is a world class Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

We stock:
500ml Bottle
1 Litre Tin

Take a look on some ways in which to best enjoy this oil:

Tasmanian Gourmet Kitchen

Are a small family-run business based in Longford, in the Northern Midlands region of Tasmania. They aim to support local growers and make use of the best produce available in season. That is why their quality handmade  savory marmalades and chutneys taste so good. Here are some of our personal favourites...

Bill's Beetroot Marmalade
A wonderful blend of the sweet earthy tones of beetroot combined with the zing of ginger – this chutney goes with everything!

Red Pepper Marmalade
A delicious product made from char-grilled red capsicum peppers (so it is not chilli hot!).   It's called 'marmalade' as the recipe includes plenty of citrus to compliment the smoky smooth taste of the red peppers.

Fresh Fodder
Fresh Fodder was established in Orange NSW by Max Schofield in 2008. From his small commercial kitchen Max and the team at Fresh Fodder constantly strive to provide a great range of dips, salads and antipasto that focuses on great quality flavours.
Take a look at the complete range:

Here are two of our best sellers...
Taramosalata 200g
A traditional red caviar recipe. This product is our market leader.
Throw the lid away - you won’t need it. There will be no left over’s as this product tastes too good!
Gluten and Dairy Free.  Preservative free.   With natural good TASTE free!!!

Greek Style tzatziki 200g
The Tzatziki is made using thick creamy yoghurt and the freshest herbs.
Serve with crusty bread or thin crackers to get the best taste.
Tzatziki tastes fantastic served with lamb - as a condiment with roasted garlic lamb or as a dip with tasty Lamb Kofta.
This dip also works well as a spread on sandwiches, wraps and rolls.  Nice alternative for your children's lunches!

If you would like more information on how you could celebrate this ANZAC Day take a look at this link:

and maybe use this recipe we found to make some ANZAC Biscuits and of course we have all the ingredients you will need.

Anzac Biscuits

A group of women during World War 1 decided to make biscuits to send to the soldiers

that would provide nutrition and keep for a long time. They were originally called Soldiers

biscuits but after Gallipoli the name was changed to Anzac biscuits.

Anzac Biscuits are still a favourite treat amongst Australians today and are very easy to
make.

Recipe for Anzac Biscuits.
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
¾ cup coconut
125g (4oz) butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon boiling water

1) Combine oats, sifted flour, sugar and coconut.
2) Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over gentle heat in a small saucepan until
melted.
3) Mix bicarbonate of soda with boiling water in a teacup. Add to melted butter mixture.
Pour into dry ingredients and stir.
4)  Place tablespoonfuls of mixture on oven trays (for easy cleanup place a piece of
baking paper on the tray)
5) Cook in a slow oven for 20 minutes. Makes about 35.
6) Try and stop your family eating them while they are still warm and soft.
Once they are cool they will go harder and you can store them in a container.

Enjoy.

With Regards,
The Deli Family
